One of the good things about this craft is that I was able to meet people from different places. This is more than just a hobby or just food being served, for me this is brotherhood in the purest sense. Just like in any Sport or any passion, it brings people together regardless of age, gender, nationality etc. , quoting the late chef Anthony Bourdain, “Bbq may not be the road to world peace, but it’s a start.” I can’t put more emphasis on that statement, we can all agree that this hobby creates a culture of family.
I met a lot people and they became friends eventually, I’ve learned about their dreams and I’ve seen them excel in the craft. There are some who struggled in the beginning and there are those who are doing well making profit from it. The joy is mine, I may have the least part on their Bbq journey but they have no idea how much happiness I feel everytime I see these Bbq crafters make it out there. Where they are now is the product of their hardwork, the countless hours of learning and manning the pit.
Probably the stories I treasure aside from humble beginnings are stories about how this craft made a difference in someone’s life. A cancer patient who spent the last days of his life finding happiness in serving smoked meat to his family. A person who got hooked about smoked bbq just in time when he’s about to commit suicide and saved his life. A person who has lost his mom and dad in a matter of weeks found comfort in crafting bbq. There are lots of stories that warms up my heart which gives me the needed motivation and inspiration to continue building smokers.
Bbq is more than just a Hobby, it is a movement, it is life, it is brotherhood, it is family. I love this craft, I love to see people succeed in smoking meats. I will do my best to contribute more and help build a stronger Bbq community here in the Philippines.
